Closing a pay pal account is painful

I'm not dealing with Paypal anymore. If anyone will only accept money via pay pal I will look elsewhere first for their competition who accept other forms of payment. Sending banknotes attached to carrier pigeons would be easier and faster. Paypal will be the last resort.
So I've managed to close my account. I had to confirm five separate times that yes I do want to do this. Each screen is the same;
  • "Pay pal rocks and we can help you but click on continue to close your account."
  • "You're an arsehole if you don't use paypal so click on continue to close your account if you are an idiot."
  • "Call us and go on hold for a few hours so we can sell you more shit services or click on continue if you're a fuckwit gimp and still want to close your account."
  • "What kind of dumb fuck are you? We're the greatest thing since sliced bread. Click continue to close your account it you hate freedom and kittens and like to masturbate in kiddie pools."
  • "Actually we're better than sliced bread. Sliced bread was a dumb invention compared to us. Click continue to close your account."

What problem(s) did you have Gerry? I sell via PP so it'd be interesting to know, simply can't afford to switch to Realex yet.

PayPal AND their customer service has been nothing but great for me.

I found it impossible to use as a merchant - http://gainford.blogspot.com/2010/02/paypal-is-piece-of-shit.html

Also as a user it's difficult to pay anyone. More and more paypal insists that you need an account with verified details before you can pay. I dont want to give them my details to pay a bill. Plus when they debit your bank account the funds leave your account but paypal take another 10 days to "clear" the payment.

While I dislike their "investigatory" procedures and their lack of communication immensely, I haven't had any problems with my hundred odd customers myself, many of whom don't have accounts; and transfers rarely take more than 2-3 days.

I wouldn't go singing their praises to anyone and if they don't start rolling out some of the stateside stuff here soon I'll be gone to Realex, it works well for me at the moment and it's still the best solution for small etailers.
