Maybe it's time for the government to just give up. At the moment CIE are among a number of unions threatening strike action if paycuts are mentioned. Maybe the government should give in, especially on the railways. Let's face it, the service has always been crap and overpriced and held to ransom by unions going on strike when ever some one wanted a day off.
Wash your hands of them, sell the company at a loss to whoever, sell it to the rail workers and the unions. Then open up the whole transport field to private companies. Let the unions run their own companies and face unemployment in the real world.
The country is not just falling apart, it has fallen apart. At least let the Irish Rail union be taken down along with the economy. See, every cloud can have a silver lining.
